The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced a new $2.89 million aid contribution from Italy to Afghanistan.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, OCHA said the funds were donated to the United Nations’ Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan.
The office added that the contribution will strengthen the capacity of humanitarian organizations to respond to emergencies.
Italy had also provided $2 million in assistance to Afghanistan a few days earlier.
According to OCHA, nearly 22 million people in Afghanistan are expected to rely on humanitarian assistance in 2026.
To address these needs, the office has appealed for $1.71 billion in funding.
