Washington | Three senior Catholic archbishops in the United States said military actions and threats in Venezuela, Ukraine and Greenland raise moral questions, and the Trump administration’s justification for them risks worsening the polarisation gripping the country.
In a frank statement that echoes concerns set out earlier this month by US-born Pope Leo, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Robert McElroy, archbishop of Washington and Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, archbishop of Newark, said the “moral foundation” of the country’s actions was up for debate.
