Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Motif Intelligence has officially announced that it will challenge the government’s re-publication of the “Independent Artificial Intelligence (AI) Foundation Model Project.”
Motif Technologies announced on the 20th that it will actively participate in the additional public offering of its own AI foundation model.
The independent AI foundation model project, which aims to develop the world’s best source AI, has been narrowed down to three out of five companies (Upstage, LG AI Research Institute, and SK Telecom) through the announcement of the first results on the 15th.
However, as two teams in the first evaluation were unusually eliminated, the government said it would hold an additional contest for one team position.
Motif Technologies, which formalized the challenge, is a startup that proved its technological prowess by announcing its own huge language model (LLM) “Motif 12.7B” in November last year and putting it on the list by Artificial Analytics, a global AI performance evaluation agency.
Ryu Je-myung, the second vice minister of science and technology information and communication, also mentioned Motif Technologies as an example of its recognition of global performance.
Motif Technologies said of its model, “It is a focus of pure Korean technology that has directly carried out the entire process from model construction to data learning,” adding, “In particular, we have developed and applied ‘group-specific differential attention (GDA) technology’ without using the existing transformer structure as it is.” It emphasized the difference in terms of independence, which is one of the conditions of the project.
Motif Technologies challenged in a consortium with AI infrastructure companies the day after tomorrow and Samil Accounting Corporation in the initial public offering of the project last year, and it is understood that they will discuss the formation of a consortium with other companies in addition to existing participants.
“It is the only startup in Korea with experience in developing both high-performance LLM and large multi-modal models (LMM) as foundation models,” said an official from Motif Technologies.
