On Wednesday night and in the morning, temperatures will drop below -20 C in many places in central and eastern Latvia, according to forecasts.
No precipitation is expected at night, with mostly clear skies at the beginning of the night, later clouding over starting from the north. In some places, there will be fog, mist, and frost.
The minimum air temperature at night in most of the country will be -20 to -15 degrees, in places where the skies remain clear for longer, down to -25 C, but it will be warmer in Kurzeme, as well as in places in Northern Vidzeme, where it will not get colder than -13 to -8 C.
During the day, the sun will shine through the clouds at times, with light snowfall in some places in Vidzeme. Slow easterly wind.
The maximum air temperature will be -8 to -3 degrees, in some places in the south of the country, up to -12 C.
No precipitation is expected in RÄ«ga, with frequent clear skies. Fog and frost at night and in the morning. Slow wind. Minimum air temperature at night is around -17 C, in the suburbs up to -22 C.
The lowest temperature this winter so far was recorded this morning in Daugavpils at -24.5 C. This is the lowest temperature in the last two years, as last winter was warm. The last time it was this cold was in early January 2024.
