Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said widespread connectivity has made it possible for artificial intelligence models and their outputs to be delivered across the world, ensuring that such technologies are increasingly available even in the Global South. He said the reach of AI is no longer limited by geography, as long as connectivity exists.
Nadella pointed to an example of a rural Indian farmer using GPT-3 as a farming aide, highlighting how AI tools can be accessed and used at the grassroots level. He said this demonstrated that the core requirement for broader AI adoption is not location but access enabled by connectivity.
However, Nadella said the key question going forward is whether sufficient capital investment is being made to support this diffusion. He said as long as there is demand, the focus should be on policies that allow capital to flow in, enabling infrastructure and innovation to scale and ensuring more even adoption of AI technologies globally.
