Luxembourg’s unemployment rate remained stable at 6.2% in December, according to data released on Tuesday by the country’s national jobs agency Adem.
However, year-on-year data showed there was a sharp rise in registered jobseekers from the end of 2024, with a 8% increase, bringing the total number to just over 21,000 as 2025 drew to a close.
The increase in jobseekers was particularly pronounced among highly qualified workers, with the percentage of university graduates out of work rising 17.7% year-on-year. By sector, IT, accounting, and secretarial roles saw the biggest jumps, the Adem report said.
Across different age groups, the percentage of jobseekers among those aged over 45 was up by 7.1%, rising to 8.1% for those under 30 and 8.9% for people aged 30-44.
The number of new registrations also surged year-on-year, with 2,815 residents signing up with Adem in December, a 21% increase on December 2024.
There was a 7% increase in the number of new job vacancies released by employers in December compared to the same month a year earlier, although the overall stock of available jobs with Adem fell to 5,472, a decline of almost 8% year-on-year.
