Wow that is…impressive…staggering to be honest. Are such high numbers even sustainable?
Hoeda? Er werkt er daar toch geen éénen in de walen? XP
Is there a reason given in the study itself? It’s a large discrepancy. Could it be a matter of reporting?
If you read the entire study, it helps putting things into perspective even if it’s still a very high number.
– many non europeans are not able to work in their real profession as Belgium makes it very difficult to have diploma equivalence. How many people clean houses with a diploma in physics (true story)
– a good portion of these people are following their spouses when they get a job in Belgium
– some are students
Still, there is a considerable room for improvement. I know so many firms in desperate need of workers, there must be a way to make the match
Could somebody provide a link to the study from UGent please ?

Not only non Euopeans but also other communitys are overexposed in the numbers. Nearly none of the Jewish Orthodow woman work and the RVA gets instructions to leave them alone but thats a secret…
Which is completely unsustaibable for our social security.. yet politicians will still say the shift to political extremes is completely unexplainable
Diamond lobby maybe? Ask Bart …
For a country so obsessed with languages it seems we do a fucking horrible job integrating migrants by having them learn them
Hmm how many of these 51% have permission to work (work permits)? The article does not really go in to much detail about what makes up this 51% number.
It’s a bit unfair to bitch about them not working IF we’re not letting them.
I’m conflicted about this
the fact that it’s almost half almost certainly means that it’s housewives, on one hand this is good as it means that only one person in the family has to work in order to sustain the family and a non-working parent is good for the development of children, on the other hand this could also be forced upon them by their partner and overal decreases the self-reliability of women which forces them to remain in bad marriages
Sorry man I just trll facts.
My husband got a high skill job in Flanders and I managed to get one too a couple months later. We both have PhDs but his is science and mine is uhhhh let’s say close to American studies. My work experience in the US wrangling a Microsoft platform for five years is actually why I have a job but now I feel even more fortunate.
That is because these immigrants were largely attracted to be the voters of the socialist party in Wallonia and Flanders. These socialist parties did everything they could to keep them down and dependent: integration (which is necessary to get a job) was framed by the PS with the nazi-term assimilation, small differences between minimum wage and ‘leefloon’, etc etc
