>The outcomes of the Conference on the Future of Europe create the opportunity to finalise the European project and establish a democratic European Federation
Just looking around at the current examples of federations, why is it assumed to be a good thing to create one?
Shouldn’t we be decentralising govt? not centralising it.
We’ve tried that for millennia, and it always ends in tears.
Now we have the technology to eradicate representative democracy, we should maybe do it globally if at all.
A federated Europe is a pipe dream. It requires nations to inherit the problems of other nations with little to gain for themselves. The Netherlands doesn’t want to deal with Bulgaria’s problems. The best case scenario would be a European state limited to the wealthy core, roughly defined by the territory of the Carolingian Empire. And even then, good luck convincing France to merge with Germany and the BeNeLux countries to give up their sovereignty.
My prediction is that the EU will cease to exist and France Germany and the Benelux countries will be the only ones forming a federation.
No one really wants to deal with eastern and southern europe and the nordics are good on their own.
I fail to see how this would benefit anyone other than the politicians in Brussels.
