Hi! I posted this over at r/de first but they recommended I try here. I also already looked through the post history and didn’t find anything relating to this specific Amt.
I’m an expat living in Essen. I’ll be moving to Hamm in the very near future. I also need to get my Aufenthaltstitel renewed. It’s only still valid right now because of an extension Bescheinigung (I called this year in January, and they gave me an appointment for March 2022 🙃). I’ve already talked to the Ausländerbehörde in Hamm about it, and they’ve told me they will first need to get my file from Essen. It will be sent via post from Essen to Hamm. They said they don’t know how long this could take and can’t give an estimated timeframe.
Many expats living in Essen know that the Ausländerbehörde is an absolute nightmare. For this reason, I’m nervous that the file transfer will take FOREVER because I’ll be travelling in March and the current extension Bescheinigung cannot be used for travelling(this is printed right on the Bescheinigung). I’m worried they won’t let me back in.
So, expats who have moved *out* of Essen to another city, how long did your file transfer take? Or, for those of you who have had an extension Bescheinigung and travelled, did you have any problems?
P.S. Yes, I do believe it could take that long or longer. If you don’t have first-hand experience with the AusBe in Essen within the last 3-4 years, **please do not comment with advice.** This Amt is on such another level of hell that there are [literal news paper articles written about it](https://www.waz.de/staedte/essen/kritik-an-auslaenderbehoerde-essen-stadt-will-besser-werden-id232741985.html).

I do have this experience and I understand your worries really well.
The process will be the following:
a) you move and get registred in Hamm
b) this registration comes – mostly in an electronic way to the Ausländerbehörde Hamm
c) there has someone to grab this messagem mark you as moved and send via system a message to Essen for file transfer or worse – a mail.
d) someone in Essen will have to find the time – and the papers or data files – to send your files to Hamm and there are many other, higher priorities to do, so this is something that sometimes takes much time, simply because everything else is more important
e) someone in Hamm will have to get this message and make an appointment with you.
As I understood, you have a Fiktionsbescheinigung?
If possible, I would try to get a new Fiktionsbescheinigung from Essen before you move. Actually Hamm can give this to you without having the file there after a call in Essen. They won’t like to do it, but they will know pretty well, that it’s not your fault.

Good luck!
