  1. One of the greatest travel writers ever.

I can highly recommend her first book, ‘Full Tilt’ from being attacked by wolves in Yugoslavia, to going through the desserts of Afghanistan.

Also her later books of travel in Russia and great. How she managed to get by on her own was amazing.

    RIP

  2. Oh no. I loved her book Eight Feet in the Andes. It was the first grown up book I ever read. She inspired me to travel to really off the grid places like Reunion and Christmas Island. She was one hell of a woman.

  3. Wonderful person. Her packing list for a cycle from Ireland to India is less than many people would take for a one-night stay. And your heart has to warm to anyone who hated cars and politicians with such a burning passion as she did.

  4. One of that great generation of travel writers. Brilliant writer, insightful and a remarkable character. One of the lady in-depth interviews with her is in a book called The Travel Writing Tribe where the author visits her for a day at her cottage. Worth a read for any fans of her.
