Croatia will face Slovenia in a friendly match on Sunday, June 7th, in Varaždin, as the final tune-up before departing for the FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
It will mark the 13th meeting between Croatia and Slovenia since independence, making Slovenia Croatia’s most frequent opponent in history. Until now, Croatia has faced France and Turkey 12 times each.
“On the pitch, Slovenia has always been a familiar and formidable rival, while off the pitch, the relationship between our two federations has been truly exceptional — something reflected in the organization of this match as well. I believe Slovenia will provide a serious test for our national team, and that the fans in Varaždin will send off the Vatreni to the World Cup in the best possible way, in a positive and joyful atmosphere. With the choice of a top-quality base camp and strong friendly matches tailored to coach Dalić and his staff’s wishes, we’ve created an excellent framework for our World Cup preparations. Before the team heads to the United States, we’ll make sure every last detail is in place, worthy of a silver and bronze World Cup team,” said HNS President Marijan Kustić.
Ticket sale information will be announced later via the Croatian Football Federation’s official channels.
Croatia will open its World Cup campaign in Dallas against England on June 17 at 10 pm Croatian time. Their second group-stage match will be against Panama on June 23 in Toronto (June 24 at 1 am Croatian time), followed by the final group clash with Ghana in Philadelphia on June 27 at 11 pm Croatian time.
The match against Slovenia will serve as Croatia’s last test before heading to their base camp in Alexandria, where the team will stay throughout the group stage of the World Cup. Before that, Croatia will face Colombia (March 26th) and Brazil (March 31st) in Orlando, and will also meet Belgium on June 2nd in Rijeka as part of their World Cup preparations.
