Turismo de Portugal will support companies in the tourism sector, including restaurants, by paying their debts to banks and extending the repayment deadlines to the organisation, the Minister for the Economy and Territorial Cohesion announced.
“Turismo de Portugal will help these companies. We will extend payment deadlines and make instalments easier. For those who owe money to banks, Turismo de Portugal will step in and advance the money to pay the banks, and the companies will pay Turismo de Portugal over a longer period”, said Manuel Castro Almeida during his participation in the 10 Years of Conversa Capital conference, held in Lisbon.
When asked about a potential crisis in the sector, Castro Almeida stressed that the restaurant industry is “very important” and “employs a lot of people”. “It is an integral and essential part of tourism promotion,” he said, adding that many restaurant companies are still paying the costs of the pandemic.
