Plastic dissolves. You don’t want micropöastic in your drinks and by that… body.
Well, it is a very easy and fun experiment to do. You will love the science behind. Just empty and fill it for a total of 15 times. Just use water for it!

It basically says “look at us, we’re so eco friendly, we refill the bottle 15 times before we scrap it”. Most sources claim that such refillable plastic bottles can actually withstand 25 cycles, so 15 is not that impressive.
The cleaning process, transport, use, exposure to sunlight, even time itself, all wear out the material. It gets thinner and more brittle, to the point where the bottle becomes unsuitable for reuse and has to get recycled rather than refilled.
This does not say that YOU are supposed to refill the bottle x times. It’s a Mehrwegflasche mit Pfand, so you are supposed to take it back to a supermarket or Getränkeshop or Selterbude and get your deposit back.
What it does say: Adelholzener will clean those bottles and reuse them up to 15 times before they shred them and turn them into regranules which are used for the production of new PET bottles.
It depends how often the producer (here its Adelholzer) on average can safely reuse it before it needs to be recycelt to ke made into a new bottle.
When they get it back they also need to completly clean it with hot water and some chemicals which will detoriate the plastic rather fast. So propably after 15 cleaning cycles the bottle gets into a milky white or can start leaking when filled with some carbonized drink.
It’s plastic. At some point the softening agent will give up on the bottle. That’s the point where the plastic breaks. You don’t want customers to experience the trauma of a plastic bottle that crumbles in their hand.
Also it’s some information for the people who ask about the energy costs and the carbon footprint that bottle leaves. It’s a friendly reminder that this bottle only cost !715 of energy and carbon to produce if it is returned properly.
