Quelle surprise! Rich List reveals which parties wealthiest people in UK donate to

  1. >Rishi Sunak and wife Akshata Murty entered the list **for the first time** with their joint £730 million fortune, it was revealed yesterday.

This is why that list is absolute rubbish, he’s been married to his wife (who was born a billionaire heiress) for over decade and now suddenly they appear??. There are people who are deliberately kept off of that list that most of the public will never hear about.

Boris, his chancellor and the rest and his cabinet were always going to get publicly savaged at some point, just like May, just like Cameron, just like Major, just like Thatcher…. it allows the Tory party to push through their despicable policies. It’s 2 and a half years until the next election, that gives the Tory party time to pin all the publics woes on the current government have a change of leadership and start a fresh 2024.

The Tory party with help of the media and right wing press have been pulling this same old tired routine for years and you fall for it every time. Well reap what you sow in 2024 and enjoy your generations of misery.

  2. a lot of them have the mentality of wanting more money so they donate to the party that funnels wealth to the rich, otherwise they’d be less likely to be up there in the list.

  3. that’s if you ever wonder why they don’t give a single fuck about cost of living crisis…. poor people don’t donate.

  4. Wonder what the “both sides are the same” people will think of this.

These rich people plainly think there’s a huge difference. To the tune of 20 / 1.

If both parties were secretly the same. Don’t you think these rich people would’ve figured that out?

    Its their money they’re donating.

  5. How exactly is the rich list compiled? Do people volunteer to be on it? Or is it based on some information the government release?

Always wondered where the information comes from as If I were very wealthy I would not want that to be public knowledge. It just seems like a bad idea to advertise how wealthy you are.

  6. That’s why I don’t care if tories rinse people’s savings, rights and working conditions. People actually vote for it.

  7. As you say it’s no surprise. So why then give it a second run round the block with your posting. …….No surprise2 ?

  8. Why would rich people donate to parties that explicitly make manifesto pledges to act against their own self-interest?

People will look after number one first, that’s never going to change whether they’re rich, poor, or anything in between.

  9. Why are donations allowed?

Going by logic it creates the situation in which a donor would stop if he wouldnt like what they are doing so political party like stakeholders have to keep them happy to keep donating. So have control over them.

    So that means corruption basically.

  10. If Labour ever get back in the NEED to abolish FPTP.

If UK elections were done using the D’hondt method, like in Scotland and Wales I think there would be a massive improvement in turnout and would make these under the table “donations” far less impactful

  11. £11m from property developers and over £1m from oil and gas big boys since thr 2019 election.

I.e. no more wfh and no windfall tax.

  12. When the Tories came to power, we had 29 billionaires in the UK

We now have 177, over a 3rd of them donate to the Tory party

  13. It’s hideous, and I’ve supported public funding of political parties (after electoral reform) for years. That said, how much does Labour get from the unions?

  14. Given what Brexit, Corbyn and wokeness have done to the Labour Party, anyone smart enough to earn a fortune would be smart enough not to waste money on them. Labour are dying and some of you haven’t realised yet.

  15. If a bunch of people who have used their intelligence to make enormous fortunes and run major companies realise that left-wing politics are naive nonsense, maybe they’re onto something? I mean, I think I’d trust top businessmen and financiers over some unshaven scruffy Redditor who lives with his mum and posts about nationalising the railways and rejoining the EU.

  16. But remember, Labour are the party of the elite and the Tories are the party of the working man according to the Red Wall.

  17. Sort of ignorant question here.

Conservatives are obviously donated to by the rich, corporate interests, and Russians, so the party can keep furthering their interests. So why aren’t labour donated to by say, unions? It doesn’t really have to be labour either, just the party that does the most for workers rights. Donations to the opposition seem incredibly low.

  18. Hardly big news, A business will invest in whichever party is in power and able to do them the most good . Had Liebour been in power then they undoubtedly would top the donations list.

  19. How common is it in the UK for people to vote against their own self interest? I’m American, and I support a number of policies that are against my own economic self interest because I just think it’s the right thing. Is the concept of the Veil of Ignorance prevalent in UK?
