MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO/CBS News) – Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to visit Minnesota on Thursday.
The visit will include remarks in Minneapolis and a roundtable discussion with local leaders and community members.
Political tensions continue to intensify as thousands of agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol continue to make their presence felt in the Twin Cities and across the state.
Though President Trump and other federal officials have said the agents are focused on arresting “the worst of the worst,” there have been extensive documented instances of U.S. citizens being detained, racial profiling and other misconduct.
Federal agents have been met with escalating resistance from community members, especially after ICE agent Jonathan Ross’ killing of Renee Good in south Minneapolis on Jan. 7.
The visit comes days after the Department of Justice served subpoenas to the offices of several Minnesota officials, including Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her.
More information on Vance’s visit to the state is expected to be released Wednesday.
