Today I was in the A648 autobahn and just before taking an exit to merge in the A5 there was the signal of no speed limit ( still in A648 )

I joined the A5 and the cars were all well above 120km/h but there was no sign like [this ](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d3/Zeichen_282_-_Ende_s%C3%A4mtlicher_Streckenverbote%2C_StVO_1970.svg/220px-Zeichen_282_-_Ende_s%C3%A4mtlicher_Streckenverbote%2C_StVO_1970.svg.png) nor speed limits.

All the variable speed limit signs were off.

How could I understand if that portion was truly limitless or not?

  1. It’s always unlimited until there is a sign. So after each entrance one could argue that for people that entered there the speed limit is unlimited, so everyone just goes with that speed limit.

  2. The Autobahn generally does not have a speed limit. It is recommended to drive 130 km/h, but you can exceed that if you want to
This sign/signal you means that a prior speed limit is now out of effect.
Tldr; if you drive onto the Autobahn and you see no speed limit sign it does not have a speed limit
