Technically we’re not neutral in my opinion. We’re supplying Ukraine with mostly medical and essential supplies – we’re sending a lot for a country of around 5 million. Because of this Russia has now added Ireland to their list of hostile counties.
“Hostile country” Ireland! They’re expecting us to cluster bomb them with whiskey and Guinness.. The mere sight of our navy ships must make them feel uneasy…”comrade , damn Irish curses.. they will have Guinness on tap, they have Kerry gold butter bars, which we know will clog up our tanks”
> He said France respects Ireland’s foreign policy and its neutrality: “But it doesn’t mean that this policy cannot evolve [or] this policy cannot or should not be adapted to a new environment.”
In over a dozen polls conducted from 1980 up to now the majority of irish people declared themselves in favour of neutrality.
Put simply, the ‘debate’ around our neutrality isn’t organic; we’re being told by figures inside and outside Ireland that now’s the time to reshape our neutrality. They’ve been saying this for decades, but now they’ve a chance to exploit the war against Ukraine to push their interests with renewed vigour. Even look at the language being used: “*adapt neutrality*”, “*react to new realities*”, “*reform our relationships*”. It’s so bloody manufactured, top-down and cynical.
We didn’t suddenly face calls for ‘reshaping our neutrality’ when three million died in the Congo, or during the Bosnian conflict, the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.
Quick. Close the Irish pubs in Russia. That will break their resolve. 🤣
No. No. Hear me out… It’ll work!!
They may not respect our neutrality but they will acknowledge our strategic insignificance by never invading.
If Russia wants advice on how to ruin Ireland,
Call Elizabeth in Buckingham palace.
Neither Russia or China is in a geographic position to invade China. End of discussion.
Russia still has the capability to violate Irish airspace, but that can be solved within the bounds of neutrality.
