Isn’t paper production hugely damaging to the environment?
For what will now be a single-use item.
*confused*
How will it compare to, for example, glass?
I don’t think paper bottles are good for long term storage. Hell, some folks reuse old bottles for their own sauces. Granted, it tends to be the proper glass ones. Paper ones sound like it’ll be a limited time affair and have more issues then the old one did. Paper straws taste shit and are prone to falling apart. Paper bottles? I can see it crumpling, ripping and generally being shit.

What’s next? Paper tins for baked beans(though, it may cause Heinz to accidentally do stackable tins)
Unpopular opinion here but I hate Heinz sugary red sauce, I much prefer either Chefs or Helmans which are a lot more tart ( bit vinegary) than Heinz, I always laugh at the massive ketchup sections with only Heinz and maybe one other brand in the supermarkets here.
Anyone else expecting councils to just… refuse to allow these bottles in their recycling bins?
So now we need someone to make a reusable bottle that’s washable to transfer the contents into as there’s no way this bottle holds up. If we’re going to go refill angle then do it properly and make sure the container we buy decants the full contents. I’m all for buying a bag of ketchup and a reusable bottle and would prefer it over these hybrids that cannot be recycled that offer worse storage.
If this was for environmental reasons they would use glass bottles
Use glass or find a way to make a resealable tin…
I’d like to see more use of aluminium bottles. They have them in Japan. They are almost fully recyclable, and have resealable screw-top lids. The only waste in recycling is the plastics in the ink and inner lining (a thin sprayed-on coat), that burns off when the aluminium is recycled.
