The Swift Current Museum is hosting a travelling exhibit aimed at raising awareness about the history and experiences of refugees in Canada.
Education and Public Programs Coordinator Crystal Ljunggren says the Refuge Canada tent is an immersive, hands-on display that explores Canada’s role in the global refugee crisis.

“This exhibit raises awareness of the complex issues surrounding the history of refugees in Canada,” Ljunggren said.
The interactive exhibit encourages visitors to learn about both modern and historical refugee experiences, highlighting the challenges faced by people seeking safety and a new life in Canada.
“This immersive and hands-on travelling exhibit offers an engaging introduction to Canada’s role while helping visitors better understand the experiences refugees face,” Ljunggren said.
The interactive displays help to shine a light on not only the current situation with refugees, but also on historical examples.
Ljunggren says the exhibit also connects to Swift Current’s own community, even though the city is not a major immigration centre.
“Even though we are a small community, we still have families around us who have come here as refugees,” she said. “For example, our Ukrainian families and several others we are very happy to have in our community.”
The exhibit is on loan from the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, and will remain on display at the Swift Current Museum until the end of February.
Ljunggren encourages residents to stop by and experience the exhibit while it is available.
