OKLAHOMA CITY (KSWO) — As extreme cold winter weather moves into the state, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced his office will monitor natural gas supply and marketing amid concerns about potential price manipulation and unfair practices.
According to a press release sent out by his office, the move comes as Drummond seeks to prevent a repeat of the market abuses seen during the 2021 winter storm Uri, which led to soaring energy costs for many residents.
Drummond is asking public utilities to report any natural gas marketers who fail to meet contracts or engage in suspicious behavior.
Drummond continues to pursue litigation and investigate excessive pricing during Winter Storm Uri. He said that his office continues to be vigilant and will take the appropriate action should similar conduct happen during this winter weather.
It is critical that Oklahomans are not exploited, especially during extreme weather events”. “While energy markets can experience volatility during periods of severe cold, those conditions do not excuse predatory behavior or violations of contractual obligations. Ratepayers deserve fair and transparent costs that reflect legitimate market conditions.
