Germany may have been naive on China at first, Merkel says

  1. Naive is an understatement.

And the fact that she still thinks we shouldn’t decouple from that authoritarian regime hellbent on starting World War 3 in the South China Sea, shows that Merkel is still naive.

  2. She knew it was a faustian pact when she made it — stagnant-to-slow European-wide economy? She damned sure wasn’t going to rebuke what had let grow into Germany’s No. 1 trading partner.

But, like so many other Boomers, and particularly those in elective office, it’s about immediate expediency and gratification, and let their children and grandchildren deal with the hellish bad times — damn the consequences.

And you can pretty much apply that to a ton of different things she did while people were howling to the contrary.
