  1. Please add English and French bulldogs to that list. A lot of Frenchies need surgery just to be able to breathe

  2. Anyone that buys these dogs or Frenchies is an asshole imo.

They’ve been overbred to bits. Why would you encourage that and pay for an animal that can’t breathe?

  3. I love French bulldogs for their ears. I saw a breeder in Netherlands is trying to breed healthy frenchies but they aren’t available yet to people. Is there any breed with similar ears?

  4. My boss has two pugs.

Constantly puts photos of them in the work Whatsapp group.

I have to fight my urge to say I think they’re gross.

  5. Dogs shows should be outlawed. They just encourage inbreeding and unhealthy traits.

Unless there’s a show for disobedient mongrels I’d ban the lot of them.

  6. A consequence of selective breeding to force a certain appearance as its cute for humans. We’ve seen this in Bulldogs, Dalmatians and the health problems that occur.

  7. I have said this for years anyone who claims to love dogs should never get a pug , they are bread for their looks and its at the expense of their health.

    It’s cruel

  8. Humans breathing these poor creatures who live in nothing but misery. Some of us are real fucking pieces of crap.

  9. All “breeds” and “breeding” should be completely banned. There are so many breeds with serious health problems from being inbred. Mongrels only.

Sidenote, same goes for humans, find a willing foreigner and mix up them genes.

  10. Just gonna have a little rant here about how I’ve worked in a vets for years now, and we’ve been saying not to buy these dogs and that they’re genetic trainwrecks ever since they got popular. Yet when someone goes and buys one and ends up bringing it in for BOAS surgery and fuck knows how many episodes of heatstroke, and ocular proptosis, and every other horror story disorder these dogs are prone to, we get accused of daylight robbery and only being in it for the money.

If we really wanted to get rich as veterinary professionals, we’d welcome these little mutant gremlins with open arms. Instead we tell you not to buy them, bc jfc, their very existence is borderline animal abuse.

  11. Look at all non-designed canines, what do they have? a medium to long snout. Canines are meant to look like that. Not like Pugs, Bullldogs, Boxers, and so on. It’s not the poor fuckers fault, but it’s best they die out to prevent their suffering. Anyone who owns one of these dog breeds here should be ashamed of themselves.

  12. You cant say youre interested in animal welfare and buy one of these. People propping up the barbaric breeding industry to have these things should be ashamed.

  13. Going by a pug on a walk and its a wonder how many one can the sound of it’s breathing is normal or ok.

  14. Had my beautiful pug from the age of 4 to 14 and never had a day’s trouble. Absolutely devastated when passed away in 2020. I definitely considered her a dog and I call bullshit on this article. Vets aren’t always the best voices to hear from regarding dogs. There was a guy in town who offered my dad his dog. A beautiful Pekinese. Apparently, the dog was eating some of his plants. My dad spoke to him a month later and asked if he was interested in selling the dog. He’d had the dog put down. A two year old dog in perfect condition. Then he offered my dad another dog, a Labrador. My dad was up at this vet’s house and saw this dog tied to a chain jumping around and trying to bark. But the dog was making no noise as he attempted to bark. This vicious vet had the dog debarked. Basically had it’s vocal cords removed because it dared to make noise. A totally inhumane man who will never tend to any pet of mine again.

  15. Feel sorry for pugs tbh. It’s like someone got a dog and smashed the face in with a frying pan. Had a buddy who had a neighbour who spent 3k on one. It’s completely retarded and running into problems from day 1.

  16. My MIL has had 2 pugs. When I 1st met my husband (then BF) I nearly had a heart attack at the sight of their dog. He was considered ‘healthy’ for a pug but jaysus the sounds out of him. Yokes!

Pugs are deformed. Their ‘quality’ of life is questionable at best. All bracacephalic breeds struggle, no matter the country or climate. I just don’t get it. Why have a dog knowing they are bred to struggle and will cost you a fortune in vets bills. Is it a status symbol thing??

It must be so frustrating for vets to see these breeds being popular.
