Dear members of Congress:
I am writing to you today concerning the attacks that President Donald Trump has been making against the sovereignty of Greenland, a territory of Denmark.
I presume that you are familiar with the ranting that has been going on and that you are familiar with the responses that Greenland, Denmark and all of the countries of NATO have expressed.
I heard about and then I read with my own eyes the text message that Trump sent to the prime minister of Norway. In my view, it was an appalling message that reflected the rantings of a petulant child, not to mention the lack of punctuation and fluidity of thought.
I am ashamed and horrified by what you spineless elected officials are allowing to happen in our country. My father fought during World War II against fascism and tyranny, landing on D-Day, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and liberating Flossenbürg concentration camp.
NATO was founded to stem any repeat of World War II, and now we are on the precipice of tearing apart all that those brave military members fought for.
I beseech you to listen to those who do not favor the end of NATO, the takeover of Greenland by whatever means the demented president desires and the loss of our long-term allies.
Once these bonds are broken, they will not be restored. And gone will be the trust that was built by the sacrifices of those in the Allied forces who gave their lives to end the Holocaust and win World War II.
