Authorities recovered the body of a 4-year-old boy during a search-and-rescue operation off the southeastern coast of the Aegean island of Ikaria, officials said Saturday.
The operation was launched after reports that a boat had dropped off a group of undocumented migrants on a rocky stretch of coastline, with witnesses saying some failed to reach shore.
A total of 45 migrants were rescued and taken to a local health center as a precaution, authorities said.
The search involved a coast guard offshore patrol vessel, a patrol boat, a private vessel and a Greek air force helicopter. It was not immediately clear whether more people were missing.
