The ultranationalist group was the target of arrests by the Judiciary Police, and a total of 37 people were detained, including three members of the Chega party, who had previously run for elections.

According to the same media outlet, the members are Rui Roque, leader of the Faro branch of 1143, who, in 2020, stated that a motion should be presented to remove the ovaries of women who undergo voluntary termination of pregnancy.

João Peixoto Branco, former member of the party’s local branch in Guimarães, previously a candidate for the Parish Council of Selho São Lourenço and Gominhães. Rita Castro, also a candidate in the 2021 local elections in Guimarães, was arrested by the Judiciary Police.

According to JN, a fourth Chega party member is still involved in the case; however, he has not been arrested by the authorities.
