The Foreign Office has updated its safety advice for several popular holiday destinations including Turkey, Egypt, Dubai, and Cyprus. The warnings have been issued amid fears that ongoing protests and civil unrest in Iran could escalate into a wider regional problem.
The guidance cautions that there is a “heightened risk of regional tension” and that “escalation could lead to travel disruption and other unanticipated impacts”.
Iran has witnessed widespread demonstrations on the streets since the beginning of the year which have been met with a brutal response from the authorities.
The nation’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has admitted that thousands of people have been killed during recent protests “some in an inhuman, savage manner”.

The Foreign Office continues its established guidance which recommends Brits avoid all travel to Iran and cautions that “British and British-Iranian dual nationals are at significant risk of arrest, questioning or detention”.

The Foreign Office is also recommending against all travel to the region around Turkey’s border with Syria due to “fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism”.
