Luxembourg has chosen its representative for the international song contest “Eurovision Song Contest 2026.” In May, singer Eva Marija (Eva Maria) will take the stage with the song Mother Nature. This was announced on the contest’s official website.
The Luxembourg national final took place on January 24: voting was conducted among eight members of an international expert jury and through public televoting. The first round of voting began after all eight contestants had performed, and as a result a top three was identified. These songs were performed again, and voting reopened for a second time. The song Mother Nature won, scoring a total of 222 points.
“Mother Nature uses nature as a symbol of hope, freedom, and a sense of connection to the earth. It invites you to reconnect with your inner child and let go of your fears”
– the artist
At the end of her performance, Eva improvised a violin solo – and it remained in the final version.
Eva Marija was born and raised in Luxembourg into a Slovenian family; she maintains a link with both cultures. She began performing at 14, and now continues her studies and writes songs in London.
At the age of three, Eva Marija fell in love with the violin after watching Alexander Rybak’s performance at Eurovision 2009, which won the contest with the song “Fairytale.” She chose a multidisciplinary path at the Luxembourg Conservatory, studying violin, singing, piano, and bass guitar in various genres, from jazz and classical to pop/rock.
Eurovision 2026: Context of the Contest and Luxembourg’s Participation
The seventieth Eurovision Song Contest “Eurovision 2026” will take place in Vienna, Austria from May 12 to 16. Thirty-five countries have confirmed their participation, with Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova among those returning. Thus the contest will be one of the smallest in terms of participants in the last two decades.
This year’s context has sparked debates about Israel’s participation. Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland remained non-participants. Meanwhile the Austrian government and ORF leadership supported Israel’s participation, and KAN’s chief executive spoke out against excluding the country from the contest as a form of cultural boycott.
The first country to officially announce its representative was Cyprus – British-Cypriot singer Antigoni, a BRIT School graduate in London. Also known are Albania with Alis and Montenegro with Tamara Živković (Nova Zora). Plans also emerged for Moldova (Satoshi from Viva Moldova!) and Malta (Aidan from Bella).
Ukraine will choose its representative in the National Selection, which will take place on February 7. The conditions and details of the show will be announced in the coming weeks.
