Two trains carrying approximately 600 passengers have collided with a vehicle that had become stranded on railway lines in yet another terrifying rail accident.
The crash happened in the Polish town of B艂onie at the level crossing on Poniatowskiego Street this afternoon (January 25).
Reports from Polish media outlet PolsatNews suggest a Ford Focus suffered a breakdown at the crossing, with the motorist’s efforts to remove the vehicle from the rails proving unsuccessful.
An Intercity service travelling from Szczecin G艂贸wny to Rzesz贸w G艂贸wny then struck the car, pushing it across to the opposite track.
A second train subsequently collided with the vehicle, which had allegedly already caught fire by this point, reports the Daily Star.
Deputy Inspector Ewelina Gromek-O膰wieja of the Warsaw West District Police told the publication: “A Ford Focus broke down at a level crossing.
“The driver tried to push it off the tracks, but unfortunately, he didn’t make it in time, and the car was hit by an Intercity train running from Szczecin G艂贸wny to Rzesz贸w G艂贸wny. The car ended up on the other track, where it was hit by a second Intercity train.”
Currently, no casualties have been confirmed as all 600 travellers have been safely evacuated from both services.
