Users in this sub are often upset that it’s hard to use their Dutch in Bruxelles, meanwhile other Brusseliers

  1. I live next to that place and I am french speaking. And it makes me feel so angry to see this, who are those retards? We don’t need anymore stupid communitarianism and idiocy. This is the work of people who are simply angry because of their inability to understand and follow the world of today. Sad for them.

  2. Aside from the “vandalism” angle, it brings up a really multifaceted issue in the city.

In 2021 Brussels, English still has no official seat at the table – and barring a federal constitutional amendment, never will. But at the same time, one of the EU’s official working languages is English, and “wOrKiNg fOr tHe CoMmIsSiOn™” is a huge draw for many Europeans.

And of course the Region doesn’t really help things by marketing itself in English to a bunch of EuroPeople who land at Zaventem and realize that the role of English is quite limited in day-to-day life.

I wouldn’t mind if both French and Dutch had to be more “[markedly predominant](http://www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/ShowDoc/cr/C-11,%20r.%2011)” tbh.

The city has never been anglophone, and probably couldn’t fully introduce English even if it wanted to, and I say that as a native English-speaker.
