Well, cars are totally shit, yes I’m a proud member of r/fuckcars
But I get the simplicity and comfort of it, straight from A to B whatever the weather,
I’m a bicycle, train/bus/etc guy and sold my car.
I rent one when I need one and because of that I’m silver-something member in most big rental agency, which is cool because you get to drive amazing cars you’ll never have bought.
But… Let me have a bit of a rant here :
We had the perfect solution; it was called catch a car. Then Mobility became the major owner and renamed it mobility Go.
The principle was awesome at canton size level: you had a (simple) car located anywhere in the city/canton, located via an app, and you could take it anywhere else in this city/canton borders.
The cars could be parked anywhere within the zone without fees (whites and blue parking spots).
It was AWESOME! But only in Geneva and Basel as test ground, because Germany or France doing it wasn’t tested enough…
Then came COVID and Mobility sent an email saying: « peoples are working from home so we saw a decrease in GO cars usage » (no shit Sherlock).
« So, we stop the test in Geneva and only keep Basel. But rest assured you can still rent our normal red wagons to go from A to A.
New solutions will be proposed in 2030 »
So, they had the future on their hands and took a dump on it because « PeOpLe ArE WoRkInG fRoM hOmE »
