It’s literally illegal to build nuclear power here.
I’m sure him and many of the green party would be in favour of nuclear, but that battle was lost here long ago, so why would he bother opening it again.
So instead we will build the interconnector and import it from france.
It can be made legal. Finland, as ever ahead of us, have 1/3 electric power generation from nuclear. And it didn’t bankrupt them
Would be great craic trying to decide which county would get the reactor
Jesus. Could you imagine the shitshow for planning and construction. We cant even build 2 hospitals!
I do not trust the Irish government to build or run a nuclear power plant.
In considering the Greens, bear in mind their legacy in Germany. On ideological grounds they got nuclear power banned decades ago. Led to huge dependency on Russian gas. Yes, that’s right. Increase in greenhouse gas emissions and strategically undermined the EU and Germany’s leadership and emboldened Putin. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Greens.
What a small minded man. He’d rather tax everyone to oblivion than look at pragmatic solutions
The Greens aren’t interested in fuel alternatives, they’re only interested in curtailing modern lifestyles.
Why is it always rules out with Eamon Ryan
I’d be pro nuclear but I don’t know if I’d trust it to be run correctly here. I so think renewables are worth looking into. Fossil fuel is finite.
I dont agree with him on a lot but he is correct that nuclear power isnt an ideal solution currently for Ireland based on the expertise available and setup costs required to build one and the energy profile it would provide would also be problematic(massive amount of energy when its working and need for massive secondary supply for when its not. Not to mention that it be a nightmare to get built (can you imagine the protests from the locals and the scaremongering?). The Government would have to essentially ban legal challenges to it to stop it being held up in the courts for years and would almost certainly be voted out of office before a single brick was laid to start it.
>Nuclear in Ireland would be very expensive because a standard nuclear reactor is very big, so if you have a very big reactor on an isolated system like Ireland, that means you have to have back-up power of the same scale,
Ah like most of the fucking charlatans in the Dail – Ryan doesn’t understand his brief. If he did someone would have told him about Small Modular Reactors
Cheers Eamonn we’ll just wing it for the next couple decades, no need to plan long term
So is he going to cancel the interconnector with France because most of their electricity is nuclear? Grade A gobshite.
I am not a fan of the green party and I am pro Nuclear but he is right.
There isn’t a need for one in Ireland and I am happy to see he isn’t ruling out importing it from other countries.
Wind energy still needs to be improved but Ireland is an ideal place for it, we see how much power it generates during the storms.
I am not sure of Irish green parties stance is to Nuclear power but I hope it is positive.
A lot of people seem to get their image of Nuclear Power from the Simpsons and Chernobyl.
It produces little to no emissions and the only true drawback is Nuclear waste, most of this waste can be recycled.
France recycles most of their nuclear waste, the USA does not but has enough waste to power the USA for decades.
We have all seen how Germany has shot themselves in the foot.
I’m grand with it as long as it’s in dublin
A few of the lads studied nuclear energy in college. They said it genuinely so safe now but everyone’s first though is Chernobyl.
It is environmentally friendly comparison to other methods
The man is an idiot, nuclear is an option we need to consider. Taxing the public seems to be this stupid man’s only solution.
Just so long as he has a piece of paper in front of him that clearly shows how we’re going to hit our energy demands renewably.
Because about 85% of our energy is fossil fuels. Also, about 85% of our energy is imported.
I’ll be really annoyed if we arrive at 2050 and the only way we’re hitting our energy demands is being completely dependended on countries that did build nuclear.
If it cost a billion our government would first need a trillion just to pay themselves not to obstruct it.
Stupid fucking clown, nuclear is the way forward.
Fucking gobshite, why is this eejit still in government. Can we not just put him on a raft and push him out to sea?
