My American family is coming next month for my wedding to my Belgian boyfriend. Instead of conventional place cards, we decided to teach them some traditional West Flemish expressions! Can you identify any of these?

  1. My guesses: Helaas pindakaas, een bruine trui breien :D, lange tenen hebben, boter aan de galg smeren, de aap komt uit de mouw, een kat in een zak kopen, de aardappelen afgieten, ???, voor het zingen de kerk uit zijn, een haar in de boter (?)

  2. Very nicely done, should be “tzwien deur de bjèten joagen”. You could still include: hoedt j’ant ges, e frang int twein bieten & scheir mo je puste.

  3. The only one I could find is buying a cat in a bag because the idiom also exists as is in French and German.

  4. I think that most of them are just regular Dutch expression rather than just West-Flemish. Except maybe the bottom left one. Never heared that one before.

But nicley done either way! I especially like how you drew the one with the pig.
