A section of NW 100th Street in Clive will temporarily close to vehicle traffic Tuesday afternoon as President Donald Trump visits the Horizon Events Center, city officials announced.NW 100th Street will be closed in both directions between Hickman Road and Swanson Boulevard from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. During that time, access to the Clive Greenbelt Trail and Maddox Parkway from NW 100th Street will also be closed.City officials are urging drivers and pedestrians to watch for public safety personnel and increased foot traffic in the area during the closure.The northbound lanes of NW 100th Street will serve as the designated free-speech area for peaceful protests related to the visit. Protesters may gather only on public property, officials said. The Horizon Events Center is private property and will be accessible only to registered attendees. Private property areas will be marked on a map provided by the city.Attendees of the event are encouraged to approach the Horizon Events Center from the south via NW 100th Street or from the east via Swanson Boulevard. Parking for the event will be available at Revision Church, located just south of the venue.Those planning to protest outside the event may use street parking where permitted in nearby neighborhoods, though officials noted parking is limited and may require parking farther north or south of the venue. Protesters are asked to respect surrounding neighborhoods by not blocking streets or littering.City officials said Clive does not require permits for assemblies or peaceful protests. Signs and inflatable costumes are allowed as long as they are not permanent or in violation of the city’s sign ordinance. Bullhorns and other amplified sound devices are permitted, provided they comply with the city’s noise ordinance.“Clive’s top priority is ensuring each person’s safety while they exercise their rights,” the city said.Maps showing closures, parking and designated protest areas were provided by the city for additional guidance.
