Eén kieslijst van Oostende tot Aarlen botst op tal van bezwaren

  1. The proposal also doesn’t make a whole lot of sense imo. Of the 150 seats in the federal government, only 20 would be elected through this “new system”, making Belgium even more complex. If they want a federale kieskring (which they don’t) all seats should be arranged through this system. Not just 20.

  2. It’s an old idea – I remember [Paviagroep](https://www.paviagroup.be/) pushing it for over a decade. Also [Be4Democracy](https://be4democracy.be/) supports this view.

There are surely advantages to it – the democratic deficit for starters. You do not live in a real democracy when you can be governed by a minister (eg. Decroo) *you cannot vote on*.

  3. I am a big supporter of a federal kieskring, but I wonder why not first start making one big kieskring for the regional elections? This seems way easier and avoids any of the thorny language issues.

In time we could then use the same kieskringen for the federal elections and gradually evolve into one federal kieskring.

  4. Cause its a dumb idea: everyone will put its most popular there so you get the people who would always get elected there not changing anything at the final result in any meaningfull way

They are still beholden to party politics so again no change.

So in the end this wont have any effect so why bother?
