but what happened before the 1930s? what happened before, the before and the before the before? who has the right to decide what should be Greek or Turkish, the colonialist occupier? the invading victorious conquerors? those who’ve lived a fraction of time longer on the island than their counterparts?
why is part of Canada “French”? why do Brazilians speak Portuguese?
I find this whole nationalism thing irrelevant and archaic, faux pride in today’s modern world, it is obsolete. This is due to the ease of travel, multicultural, ethnic communities pockets that now exist in every large western city. The size of Cyprus is small enough that the homogenisation rate of identity of the environment will be similar to that of a city that has fast track immigration policies.
