Two young men, aged 20 and 24, have been arrested and remanded in custody in connection with the murder of a taxi driver in the Belgian city of Geel, the Antwerp Prosecutor’s Office announced.

The decision on the security measure was made by the investigating judge, while investigations continue to fully elucidate the incident.

The victim is Albanian citizen Marko Beka, 45 years old, resident of Geel and a taxi driver. He was shot dead on Friday evening, at around 9:00 p.m., near a park behind the church in the village of Larum, while he was talking to several passengers. Despite the intervention of emergency services, Beka could not survive the injuries he sustained.

He left behind his wife and three children.

According to Belgian authorities, it is suspected that the incident started after an argument that got out of control.

The prosecution has indicated that the victim “was not chosen randomly,” but the exact motive for the crime remains unclear.

It has not been confirmed whether this was a spontaneous collision or a premeditated act.

The area of ??the incident was cordoned off for several hours, while investigators, the crime lab, and the coroner arrived at the scene.

The Antwerp prosecutor’s office has stated that investigations are continuing intensively to clarify the role of each suspect and the full circumstances of the murder.
