Gene-edited crop production in Britain will be sped up to tackle Ukraine food crisis

  1. Not sure that we could do anything in time to alleviate possible food shortages caused by the war in Ukraine but it’s good that we’re making progress in implementing new breeding techniques.

  2. Good. Restrictions on GM and gene-edited crops are utterly nonsensical. Not only are they provably safe, [GM technology adoption has reduced chemical pesticide use by 37%, increased crop yields by 22%, and increased farmer profits by 68%. Yield gains and pesticide reductions are larger for insect-resistant crops than for herbicide-tolerant crops.](https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0111629) It’s absolutely insane that lobby groups push to demonise the technology and scare people off them with pseudo “warning” labels and fake studies/misleading claims.
