The Royal House has not confirmed the news, but, according to local paper Ekstra Bladet, the trip is planned to take place in March, two months after Frederik and Mary’s trips to Estonia and Lithuania, from 27-28 January.

The couple’s last official visit to Australia came in 2013, when they were still the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark. The trip saw them celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House and attend the Crown Prince Couple Awards. The future queen also opened the flagship store of Danish designer Ole Lynggaard, one of her most treasured clothing brands.

Queen Mary has returned home to Australia twice since her husband acceded to the throne, following the abdication of her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe in 2024. Both visits have been in a private capacity, with Mary flying over to visit her Australian family, including her 84-year-old father, John Donaldson, and her sisters, Jane Stephens and Patricia Bailey.

In February 2025, she was joined in Tasmania by King Frederik and three of their children, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Prince Josephine. Their eldest son, Crown Prince Christian, served as regent back home in Denmark.
