NEWS: GB TRACK STARS SELECTED TO CHASE EARLY SEASON GLORY AT 2026 UEC TRACK ELITE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS — British Cycling has announced the 23-strong squad that will represent the Great Britain Cycling Team at the first major event of the 2026 season; the UEC Track Elite European Championships in Konya, Turkiye, from Sunday 1-Thursday 5 February.

Having set not one, but two flying 200m world records on this track last summer, Matt Richardson will be keen to topple his 8.857 second time in competition. Olympic team sprint silver medallist Hamish Turnbull will be back on the boards, alongside Joe Truman and Harry Ledingham-Horn who joined the pair in a team sprint silver medal win at last season’s world championships. Rounding out the men’s sprint team will be Harry Radford, who will be looking to better his team sprint bronze medal won at his elite European debut last year.

Olympic gold medallist Emma Finucane returns to the European championships having picked up her first European title in the sprint with two additional silver medals in 2024. She will be joined by fellow Olympic champion Sophie Capewell who will be looking to remind her competitors of her sprint prowess as she returns to competition after taking some time away from events in 2025.

Last year’s team sprint silver medallists, Lauren Bell and Rhianna Parris-Smith, will compete for the starry European champion’s jersey as they continue on a promising performance trajectory, while Lowri Thomas will be back chasing European glory having not competed since her debut in 2024.

The men’s endurance squad sees Olympic silver medallist Ollie Wood back on the boards after a lighter 2025 season, joined by world championships Madison silver medallist Mark Stewart. Bunch race specialist Will Tidball will return to action chasing the European stars, while Matt Bostock claims his place in the squad having made his return to the GB track team earlier last year.

Three-time junior world champion Henry Hobbs and multiple under-23 and junior European medallist Ben Wiggins will represent Great Britain at elite level for the first time, while multiple times British Cycling National Circuit Series race winner Tim Shoreman makes his Elite GB debut on the track.

The women’s endurance squad will showcase a range of experience levels. Katie Archibald chases her 21st European title, while two-time junior track world champion Imogen Wolff makes her elite debut alongside Millie Couzens, who makes her return to track competition after five years to debut at this level. Kate Richardson will be the third debutant in the team, having spent time focusing on the road in 2025.

Adding their experience to the team are Olympic bronze medallists, Josie Knight and Anna Morris, who with three and two European titles respectively, will focus on reclaiming their team pursuit title, before tackling the individual races later in the programme.

Performance Director for the Great Britain Cycling Team, Stephen Park CBE, said: “We will be kicking off the 2026 international track season with a stacked line up of proven champions, as well as a chance for some of our younger talent to get their first outing in the elite ranks. We know Konya is a fast track, with a high chance of a repeat of the incredible scenes shown by Matt Richardson in his double world record break of last summer, but this time elevated by the electricity of a competition crowd.

“Moving ever closer to LA Games, our experienced riders are raring to go and showcase the results of their winter training, suss out the competition and come home with the first silverware of the year. Meanwhile, some new faces will add a new energy and dynamic to the team, showcasing that the performance pathway continues to be successful in identifying and nurturing the best of British talent.”
