WANA (Jan 28) – Israeli security agencies have announced the arrest of a tourist in Tel Aviv on suspicion of intelligence-related activities. According to Hebrew-language media reports, the individual was detained on Tuesday evening near the Kirya area, which is considered one of Israel’s most important military and security complexes.
Israeli police claim that the suspect had been photographing buildings and routes around the area for an extended period and later took pictures of a base located within this zone. A police spokesperson said the suspect was likely acting under the direction of “hostile parties,” and for this reason, the detention has been extended for an additional 24 hours.
These developments come amid reports that Israeli authorities have arrested several other individuals in recent months on charges of links to Iranian intelligence services.
Police previously announced the arrest of one such individual, 26-year-old Maor Kringel from the city of Holon, who was detained in August 2025 on charges of photographing security and military sites and maintaining contact with Iranian parties.
According to Israeli claims, investigations indicate that Kringel had been in contact with Iranian operatives since early 2025 and, in addition to gathering information, had attempted to recruit others to cooperate.
This process led to the arrest of another individual, Tal Amrim—also 26 and from Holon—who is being pursued on charges of contact with a foreign agent and following that agent’s instructions.
Israeli security officials have not yet released further details about the identity or nationality of the detained tourist.
