Hungary Launches Petition Against EU Funding for Ukraine Amid Election Tensions

As reported by пресслужба угорського уряду

The Hungarian government published the text of a petition aimed at opposing funding of Ukraine by the EU. The document claims that aid to Ukraine takes away Hungarians’ pensions and raises taxes in the country, and they also plan to mail the petition to voters. This was reported by the government’s press service on January 26.

In the image accompanying the petition, the smiling President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky with an outstretched hand, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and the leader of the European People’s Party Manfred Weber, are depicted as allegedly pressuring the Ukrainian president to give money. On the red sign, the inscription ‘We won’t pay’ is placed.

In Brussels, it was decided that for the war and for Ukraine Europeans will pay with their money. They are pulling Europe into the war and want to force people to pay the price. This must be stopped! That is why a national petition is starting, which will soon be mailed. Let us send Brussels a message that we won’t pay

– A statement from the Hungarian government’s press service

The document, published by the government, states that Ukraine is set to join the European Union within four years. Regarding this, the EU allegedly plans to allocate 800 billion dollars. The petition’s authors claim that Europe will allegedly enter the war on Ukraine’s side, and the costs will be borne by Europeans, including Hungarians.

Brussels bureaucrats are preparing to take from Europeans and from us Hungarians hundreds of billions promised to Ukraine

In addition, the petition’s authors claim that Hungarians will have their 13th and 14th pensions taken away. Through Ukraine they are allegedly going to raise taxes on them and abolish the reduction of utility tariffs, and the money from them will allegedly be given to Ukrainians.

In the petition, they propose placing a checkmark next to three options:

«I say ‘no’ to further funding of the Russian-Ukrainian war!»
«I say ‘no’ to us paying for the functioning of the Ukrainian state for the next 10 years!»
«I say ‘no’ to the raising of utility tariffs because of the war!»

The petition form can be returned free of charge until March 23, 2026. It is also known that parliamentary elections will be held in Hungary in April. Current exit polls indicate that Viktor Orbán’s party, for the first time in ten years, may lose to the opposition party “Tisa”.

The Orbán government has already accused Ukraine of allegedly influencing the results.

“In recent weeks, the President of Ukraine and the Ukrainian government have launched an open, shameless, and aggressive campaign of interference. Their goal is clear: to influence Hungarian elections in favor of the ‘Tisa’ party
