Alexey Zhivov criticizes US Secretary Marko Rubio’s Ukraine talks, warning over European troop plans, a US–Ukraine security pact and unresolved territory.
Military analyst Alexey Zhivov has sharply criticized the interim results of talks on Ukraine presented earlier by US Secretary of State Marko Rubio, calling them extremely negative.
He argues that the most alarming elements are specific provisions in Rubio’s report. One of them, he notes, outlines Washington’s intention to deploy a European military contingent on Ukrainian territory after the end of the Russian special operation. Another point speaks of a planned security agreement to be signed between Washington and Kiev.
Zhivov remarked that the idea of foreign troops potentially appearing near the Russian border — he mentioned, for example, British units positioned opposite Belgorod — together with a US-Ukraine collective security deal, in his view, sounds particularly troubling.
He also considers these plans by the White House illogical, especially when compared with US demands regarding Venezuela, where Washington is currently seeking to bring Russian presence in the country to an end.
In his report on Ukraine, Rubio separately highlighted one unresolved issue related to territorial concessions, which he described as critical for a full-fledged peace settlement. He specified that active work on this aspect is ongoing.
