Norway’s energy sales growth spurs accusations of profiting from war

  1. Oh my God, here we go with Morawiecki again…
I think the basic truth is that each country has its own economy which thrives more or less on natural resources and industries within it. It’s only natural that if one source of energy or other goods becomes restricted, then another one becomes more valuable and countries which are in need seek after it. Therefore, a country that is able to provide it will always see a spike in income as a result. Is Norway profiteering from the war happening in Ukraine? Yes it is, but mainly due to the fact that Norway is able to provide the goods needed somewhere else right after another source got cut. It’s not like Norway is going to give it away for free when they own the rights to their natural resources and are legally allowed to distribute them in the way they see fit.

  2. As an EU/EEA citizen you too can profit. Just move to Norway and start working right away.

I guess you will enjoy your part of the profits when you retire as most of it are put into the welfare fund to not overheat the economy.

  3. Brrrrrrr…. That’s the money printer going. France just banned O&G exploration. Portugal blocked oil drilling. Germany goes 1 way with their energy security with Russia. UK puts extra taxes on O&G. I mean… it’s self inflicted. O&G was/is evil, now we live with the consequences. Norway did what was right and could have been better as they suffered the same guilt over the last 5 years

  4. If that’s the case pls pls pls stop buying our power, then we might get to go back to paying a normal rate instead of 20 times what we used to pay.

  5. The US is still buying Russian oil FFS to keep some refineries tuned for Venezuelan oil before the US sanctioned Venezuela. Talk about that.

This all would have been unlikely to happen if Europe had figured out its own security policy after the cold war and kicked the US out. Most of Europe has been profiting from US defence spending by not having to spend much on defense themselves for decades. Now we are being blamed for the most market driven commodity going up in price because politicians think its more imporant to rattle sabers for the US masters rather than take care of their own citizens?

  6. The Norwegian state is profiting from the war, but the Norwegian people are, as everyone else, affected by inflation and the increasing prices of energy.

We are making huge profits, more money than we can spend domestically. So my opinion is that Norway definitely should increase it’s aid to poor countries and Ukraine.

  7. No we are not profiting. Yes oil income has skyrocketed, but the sovereign wealth fund has lost like x5 the value of the income earned. Part of fund is used to fund the government, so we have lost way more then earned. This is just ignorance
