Latvia was a symbol of hope and freedom for small nation like Latvia to fight with evil Russia ( USSR) in 80s and 90s. Latvian have free soul which is much greater than some kind exotic food and gigantic Architecture
Yes if you are URLA then most of your culture is taken from russia, but for latvian culture i is different story – because it is not taken from russia.

I was visiting Riga and my Bolt driver drove past the relatively new public library there. I remarked on how beautiful it was and the driver, a Russian speaking woman, derisively said Latvia has no good authors. This bizarre Russian supremacist attitude shocked me. But this was before Putin’s ridiculous speech saying Ukraine was a fake country. WTF with the attitude Russia?

These people still think and operate like in 19th century – it’s colonialist style of thinking by which their culture is civilized and everyone else is barbarian savage whose culture is not a real culture and who should be grateful for the opportunity to adapt features of occupier’s culture.

Currently, Russians are spending a crazy amount of resources on troll farms that try to shift the public’s opinion on them. You can easily see that in most war related topics on Reddit.
But I believe that addressing someone in a private message like that would be a weird and seemingly ineffective way to seed doubt about someone or something. But I would not be surprised if they did it.
