In January, Yamal LNG will supply the entire LNG produced to the European Union. This will be a new record for Russia’s first Arctic project. Due to frosts in Europe, stocks are falling rapidly and Yamal LNG is one of the best sources.

Yamal LNG will deliver all the LNG produced to the EU countries in January. This is evidenced by the AIS data of the courts. So, for 30 days in January, gas carriers of the first Arctic project have already delivered 23 shipments to France, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium. Another one is expected tomorrow — the tanker Boris Davydov will arrive in Rotterdam.

Europe has two more gas carriers going to local terminals, and the total number of shipments may grow to 25. This is the maximum capacity of the first Arctic project.

Judging by the AIS data of the vessels, tankers that transport Yamal LNG to Asia are just returning to Murmansk, where gas is transshipment from ice-class gas carriers. Seapeak Yamal and LNG Phecda are already in the loading area. However, for now, ice-class gas carriers are going to Europe. Obviously, Chinese participants in the Arctic project are also reselling all their volumes to Europe, where the spot price of gas has exceeded $ 500 per thousand cubic meters.

The total supply of Yamal LNG per month may amount to 2.3−2.4 billion cubic meters. With the current import of liquefied natural gas to the EU countries, which will amount to 12.55 billion cubic meters in January, according to GIE, the share of the Russian project will grow to 18%.

Gazprom’s supplies to Europe also remain at a high level. In January, an average of 54.9 million cubic meters per day are supplied via the European line of the Turkish Stream. This is the second highest figure after December.

Europe’s high appetite for Russian gas is explained by low reserves. By the end of January, the storage capacity had dropped to 42%, and frosts continue to support high demand in the EU.

The situation is worsened by frosts and a sharp increase in gas consumption in the United States, which have already led to a drop in production at export terminals on the Gulf coast.

At the same time, Yamal LNG, thanks to its short transport arm, remains one of the most attractive sources of gas for European companies, despite EU plans to completely abandon Russian gas next year.
