The Governor and the Higher Council of the Bank of Italy, in the course of the meeting held on 30 January, took note of the desire of the Director General, Luigi Federico Signorini, to leave office early, for personal reasons, as of 31 March next. The Governor and the Board of Governors expressed their gratitude to Signorini for his years of service to the institution and wished him all the best for the future.

At the same meeting, in an extraordinary session, on the Governor’s proposal, the Board of Governors resolved to appoint Paolo Angelini, currently Deputy Director General, as Director General; and Gian Luca Trequattrini, currently General Officer and Secretary to the Board of Governors, as Deputy Director General.

Paolo Angelini, as director general of the Bank of Italy, also takes over as president of Ivass, replacing Luigi Federico Signorini.

The appointments were made pursuant to Article 18 of the Statute of the Bank of Italy and will be effective following approval by decree of the President of the Republic, promoted by the Prime Minister in agreement with the Minister of Economy and Finance, after consulting the Council of Ministers.

Signorini’s exit, announced today, would have matured after he turned 70 last October and in view of the expiry of his mandate in 2027. After 13 years in the directorate, in very challenging years marked by banking crises and financial tensions, Signorini would thus have opted to devote more time to his private life and his many interests, including cultural ones.
