CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — Chattanooga is about to welcome one of the most recognizable teams in the world.
Spain’s national soccer team has chosen Chattanooga as its official team base camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup, turning the Scenic City into home base for one of the sport’s global powerhouses.
The team, known as La Roja, will train at Baylor School’s soccer complex and stay at properties operated by Vision Hospitality Group while preparing for the tournament, which runs June 11 through July 19, 2026, across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Organizers say Spain chose Chattanooga after evaluating sites across North America for field quality, privacy, security, infrastructure, and proximity to match venues. The team’s delegation will include players, coaches, medical staff, and support personnel.
City leaders say the selection reflects years of investment in soccer and sports infrastructure.
Mayor Tim Kelly called the announcement a milestone for Chattanooga, saying hosting Spain puts the city on the world stage as a serious soccer destination. He encouraged residents to welcome the team and its supporters with the hospitality the city is known for.

Spain enters the tournament as the top seeded team in the world.
Baylor School Head of School Chris Angel said being selected as a training site is an honor for both the school and the community, pointing to the campus facilities and infrastructure needed to support elite athletic performance.
Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp said the selection highlights the region’s deep soccer roots, from youth leagues to professional clubs, calling it a historic opportunity for the county.

Officials say security and confidentiality protocols will be in place during the team’s stay, with more details on scheduling, media access, and possible community events expected in the coming months.
Chattanooga has previously hosted the U.S. Women’s National Team, the U.S. Men’s National Team, and international club teams, building a reputation as a go to destination for high level soccer.
