The Albert Lea Civil Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the History Center of Freeborn County. Jim Munyer will present on a scarcely known para-military group called the Wide Awakes. The Wide Awakes was a group of young men who were formed to protect President-elect Abraham Lincoln before his inauguration in March, 1861. After the Inauguration, these same men became part of Union Army.
There will be time for Q and A and a drawing for a Civil War related book. This event is free and open to the public.
