WANA (Jan 31) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that he has held political consultations with senior Turkish officials on bilateral relations and regional developments, stressing Tehran’s readiness for regional engagement and for reaching a “fair and equitable” nuclear agreement.
According to Araghchi, his meeting and discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday, 10 Bahman, focused on expanding Tehran–Ankara relations and reviewing issues of shared regional interest. He described the talks as “useful and constructive.”
In a message published on Saturday, Iran’s top diplomat reiterated Tehran’s official position on its nuclear program, stating that Iran has never sought to acquire nuclear weapons. He said the Islamic Republic is prepared to enter into an agreement that provides clear guarantees against the pursuit of nuclear arms while also leading to the effective lifting of sanctions—an agreement that safeguards the legitimate interests of the Iranian nation.
Araghchi also pointed to Turkey’s role in regional developments, noting that Ankara, alongside other neighboring countries, has played a constructive role in strengthening regional peace and stability through its “good offices.” He emphasized that Iran appreciates these efforts and welcomes their continuation.
In closing, the Iranian foreign minister underscored that Tehran has always been ready to engage and cooperate with countries in the region to preserve peace and stability and to prevent “illegal acts of aggression,” a stance he described as a constant pillar of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s regional policy.
