Adrian Delia’s son was assaulted in Sliema on Saturday night, with the Nationalist Party MP saying that it’s time to “make Malta safe again for our children and families.”
Delia shared his “difficult experience” on his social media page, saying that he felt compelled to speak up not just as a political representative but also as a parent.
“Yesterday my teenage son was brutally assaulted by a group of youths in a family-friendly area of Sliema. Repeated reported instances of such gang activity and attacks on children like this, particularly over weekends, point to a growing problem of violence and unruly behaviour that cannot be ignored,” Delia said.
He said that no parent should have to worry about their child’s safety in public spaces.
“My son is thankfully recovering, but things could have ended very differently,” he said.
He thanked his son’s friend who stood by him and called for help as well as the staff at Mater Dei Hospital and officers of the Malta Police Force for their professionalism and for respecting his family’s privacy.
“This is not about politics this is about safety. We must make Malta safe again for our children and families,” he said.
